Recognizing 40 Years of Art for the People’s Sake
For over 40 years, we have nurtured artists who in turn shared with us through engaging performances, exhibits, workshops, and classes. We have also been a safe place for those organizing and educating others about social injustices and the need for systemic change. See how you can help us reach our Anniversary goals.

In 1984, a group of determined artists and activists came together to open the Arts Exchange located in Grant Park. They had been charged by the vision of Mayor Maynard Jackson who believed that art was important to the growth of Atlanta. He supported the Neighborhood Arts Center which later burned down. Several of these artists carried this spirit forward gathering in various spaces to create. Ebon Dooley, our founder, took on the challenge to find a place that would welcome everyone. This sense of purpose and self-empowerment is the foundation of the ArtsXchange.
For over 40 years, we have nurtured artists who in turn shared with us through engaging performances, exhibits, workshops, and classes. We have also been a safe place for those organizing and educating others about social injustices and the need for systemic change.
Five years ago, we made the intentional choice to move to the city of East Point. It is here that we are planting deep roots for the next 40 years. We are asking ourselves, “What is the artist’s role in community development? How can we creatively promote dialogue around real issues impacting the quality of life around us?” These are big questions, but we have started to plant the seeds, whether by encouraging our neighbors to come learn about and plant their own garden; becoming a USDA-certified People’s Garden, or launching a series of Community Conversations around a variety of pressing topics.
We are building important partnerships that move across Metro Atlanta. And we need your support!
