ABOUT
Opal Moore is a native Chicagoan living and writing in Atlanta. She is the author of the poetry collection, Lot’s Daughters. Her poems and stories appear in print and online journals and anthologies, including Honey, Hush! An Anthology of African American Women’s Humor; Furious Flower: Seeding the Future of African American Poetry; Bigger Than Bravery, Black Resilience & Reclamation in a Time of Pandemic; the Boston Review (online); the Notre Dame Review; Callaloo and other publications. For a time Moore served as poetry editor for The Art Section (TAS), an online journal. Her work with TAS allowed her to work with diverse artists and poets through interviews and programming. She curated "Poems for Romare" a performance of original poems created for the Romare Bearden exhibition at the High Museum (featuring poets Jericho Brown, Frank X Walker, Sharan Strange, Felton Eaddy, Rachel Eliza Griffiths and herself). With a grant from the Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs, Moore organized, curated and hosted an ekphrastic poetry reading and performance, "Color + the Body," a poetic dialogue with Deanna Sirlin's painting series, "Wavelength," exhibited at the Chastain Arts Center. These and other collaborations, including her interviews with important artists and writers (in and beyond Atlanta) are archived on The Art Section website (theartsection.com). Moore is a founding member of the Wintergreen Women Writers Collective, a 40 year gathering of Black women in support of women who write.
