About the Event

THE FAMILY THAT CREATES TOGETHER: Drumming Up AWAREness

Saturday, March 26 & April 2 @ 2-3 PM and Monday, May 16 & June 6 @ 6-7 PM

This course — taught by Wise Mecca Mingo, I Am Arts cofounder and percussionist —allows families to become indirectly aware of earth science and math while utilizing a neat and fun approach to traditional west African drumming. The healing aspects of the drum can help to release vibrational energy and strengthen their social and emotional well being. The Djembe drum uses polyrhythms to organize the rhythms it produces by divides the hands into equal parts when striking the drum.

It is part of "The Family That Creates Together" a series of 16 free classes taught by ArtsXchange studio residents on various dates, March-June. Youth of all ages and their families are invited to participate.

Funding for "The Family that Creates Together" is provided by Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General.  Georgia Council for the Arts also receives support from its partner agency – the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional funding provided by Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta and the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund, the Fulton County Arts and Culture under the direction of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners.
